About Me

Xu Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Oklahoma State University. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Virginia Tech in 2013, under the supervision of Dr. Tao Lin. From 2013 to 2016, he was a Golomb Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University. Before joining Oklahoma State University, he was a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Mississippi State University from 2016 to 2019.

Dr. Zhang's research interests are in numerical analysis and scientific computing, with a particular focus on finite element methods, immersed finite element methods, interface problems, and their applications. His research has been supported by several research grants from the National Science Foundation. In 2021, he received the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities.

During 2024–2025, Dr. Zhang served as President of the SIAM Central States Section.

In 2026 he begins a term as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Numerical Analysis and Modeling.

In Summer 2026, Dr. Zhang teaches MATH 2153 Calculus II. Office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9:00–10:00 a.m.
