About me
Xu Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Oklahoma State University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mathematics from Virginia Tech in 2013. His dissertation was advised by Dr. Tao Lin. From 2013 to 2016, he was a Golomb Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University. Before joining Oklahoma State University, he was an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Mississippi State University during 2016-2019.
Dr. Zhang's research interests include numerical analysis and scientific computing. More recently, his research has been on immersed finite element methods for interface problems and their applications. Dr. Zhang has received several research grants from National Science Foundation. In 2021, he received the Powe Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from ORAU (University News).
In 2024-2025, Dr. Zhang serves as the President of the SIAM Central States Section.
In Fall 2024, Dr. Zhang teaches MATH-CS 4513, MATH 5513 Introduction to Numerical Analysis and MATH 5473 Financial Calculus. The office hour is Tuesday 2pm-3:30pm and Wednesday 10am-11:30am.
