Michael Spivak's Calculus On Manifolds: A Modern Approach To Classical Theorems Of Advanced Calculus

We will cover the book mostly linearly, perhaps going a bit faster in the beginning. If time allows (it probably won't) we may do some extra fun related topics.

I'm putting together a short errata page for Spivak's book at least the few things I noticed and didn't forget to mark down. Good to check there.

We will assume that you have had some sort of 521, tough I won't require 522 knowledge (though of course it doesn't hurt to have had it)

In 521 I covered just about everything in Basic Analysis by Yours Truly, so look there for background.

Grading:

Grades will be based on the percentages below. Curve will be applied if needed.

Exam: Takehome, assigned Monday October 15 due Wednesday October 17 in class, 35% of your grade.

Final: Takehome, assigned on last class day, due in our finals room SCIENCE 360 (same as our lecture) Friday 21st December 12:25pm , 35% of your grade.

Homework: Assigned weekly (some weeks may be skipped). Worth 30%, possibly spot checked (spot checked means: some spot(s) of each homework checked, and all will be collected). Lowest 2 homework grades dropped (so no late homeworks).

Test Policies: No working together on the exams. You can use the Spivak book or my book and your notes. You are not allowed to try to look up solutions on the internet look through all sorts of other books, ask tutors, etc ... Treat it as if it were an open book exam, just that you had lots of time to do it.
