Student Comments

  1. "I feel that the discussion in class is good because it allows everyone to hear each others' thinking. If anyone is unsure of a problem, they can see how others have worked it out."
  2. "I like trying to do my homework on my own first, so I find my own way. I get upset when I come to class with questions on certain problems and the class doesn't know and we are left with unanswered thoughts."
  3. "It is good if a few people understand the material, but we don't get much accomplished if no one understands or if they are not willing to share."
  4. "I learn better by doing things myself rather than listening how to do things. I believe it improves my learning."
  5. "Sometimes it is good because it helps to see if other students think like I do. But it can also be frustrating because we seem to go around the problem and never know if the answer is correct."
  6. "In all honesty, I learn better when there is a set lecture and I am able to ask the professor questions and get an answer from him. When the discussion is left to the class I tend not to ask questions and leave the class wondering/doubting myself."
  7. "Well, I feel that I would be doing a lot better if I was being taught by a teacher. Since we do not get straightforward answers, I am never sure if what I am doing is correct. Therefore, I am left with doubt of my ability in this class. When I am at home trying to do homework I am guessing, and half of the time I do not complete my assignments because I do not understand. It can be very frustrating and it makes it easy for me to give up."
  8. "I enjoy it because the pace of the courses reflects the students' learning. There is not a push to accumulate an amount of pages that are meaningless."
