Math 6690.351, Topics in Homological Algebra, taught by Professor Mermin: The course is intended to fill in the bits of the Algebra comprehensive exam syllabus which are missing from Math 5613/5623: Exact sequences, resolutions, and (co)homology. Hom and tensor; Ext and Tor. Projective, injective, and flat modules. Applications to other areas of mathematics such as topology and geometry. Universal properties and introduction to the language of category theory. Rather than relying on large amounts of homework as a core course would, the class will be driven by interactive student lectures.
